2003-05-22 22:54:00 | Hi, Do the new virus definitions from liveupdate refer only to the latest version of the OS, e.g. do you need to run windows update after liveupdate to be completly protected. Cheers

2003-05-22 23:21:00 | The liveupdate for the virus and the updates for windows is two very separate functions. The Virus LiveUpdate will update only your virus program with virus and program updates related to which ever version of Anti Virus you are running. It does not hurt though to check for Windows Updates from time to time though where anti virus updates can be from one to several a week, windows updates will usually be less often, again depending on the version of windows you are running.

2003-05-23 07:33:00 | I apologies, I didn't explain myself well enough. Are the latest version virus definitions from symantec specific to the latest version of windows. e.g. will the virus definition be effective on a new instal of win2k or are they specific to the latest service pack and security updates e.t.c. Cheers

It does not matter what service pack and security updates you have installed like what Gordon said it is two different things. Hope this helps. |

2003-05-23 07:45:00 | The symantec updates *should* have no direct relevance to the version status of Windows, as long as the actual base version (95/98/ME/2k/NT/XP) being run is within the requirements of the base installation of the anti-virus product itself. Live update of Symantec product *should* be completely unrelated to the status of Windows as regards the service packs and security updates. Thats the theory, anyway. I would be more concerned at the reverse actually, that a Windows update or patch *might* one day clobber the Symantec product.....
