| 146853 | 2003-05-25 11:00:00 | I honestly didnt think people sank to that level? I think I did well to express myself camly, and in a nice manner! I didnt attack anybody with my posting at all.. I believe I expressed myself, and stood up for my online friends without enroaching on anybody's comfort zone, yet you still feel the need to lash out? You mock me for all that I stand for, and hope to achieve what? PressF1 has been nothing but great for me, I have a passion for working with computers.. something about it entices me, that they can be unpredictable.. Im not sure, but I love working with computers and in IT! You know what else I love? Helping people! If I somehow fail in the IT world, or lose my passion for computers, then Im becoming a councellor because I love helping people, I love psychology, and I love helping others with their problems. PressF1 has helped me fulfill many of those things until I can get a job.. It is comments like that which make us regulars regret coming to PressF1. Im here to help, and to learn. If you're not here for either of those, then why are you here? Its certainly not to post constructive comments on the issues at hand, be they IT related or not! As for my Christianity, I find it insulting you would sink to attack my religion on a forum which has nothing to do with it? Why wear out your knees on your jeans? God hears you if you're standing up or lying down ma'am, so I personally never kneel, get sore legs otherwise! Why would you want to insult me and my beliefs, my goals and my dreams when I have never done anything of the sort to your or your loved ones? Sincerely Chill. |

I thought the mediaeval longdrop was called a garderobe. Dangerously close to "wardrobe", which leads to the trather off-putting thought that the same chamber was used for both purposes. Middle-sized Oxford is unhelpful; simply says "a mediaeval building". (Staying clear of the argument which has sidetracked this thread) Argus |

I usually talk to him on MSN/ICQ when I get the chance! What about you? We should trade email addresses or something like that and compare notes and things on Chill! |

| 146859 | 2003-05-25 23:09:00 | Meanwhile, back to the topic! I am re-reading "A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush" by Eric Newby, and during last night's bedtime reading, there was the word itself - "oubliette" . "The roof (of a caravanserai) was grown thick with grass and wild peas, masking open chimney holes as dangerous as oubliettes . The view from the ramparts was desolate . " So the word was still in use in 1958 at least . Have you done "caravanserai" yet, Billy? |

| 146860 | 2003-05-25 23:17:00 | Enter, stage right. To Dyan. Yes, a funny thing did indeed happen on the way to the forum. It looks like it raised equally as much mirth and disgust in you as it did me. To Chilling Silently. I'm sure that most are glad you get so much fulfillment out of PressF1. I'm sure that most are glad that you are able to assist so many people in so many ways. But if that is what expressing yourself calmly is I would most probably be aghast at how you express yourself when stirred. I hope that by now you have taken a chill pill Chill and as suggested, have read your postings in this thread. They do not come across in the most favourable Light. There were some honest observations made by a couple of posters who obviously don't conform with convention and have no qualms about saying what they think and probably expressed what a few others have been thinking. I know that for me, it was a refreshing and honest read. You chose to single out one in particular for whatever reason. Perhaps Dyan struck a sore point, an inharmonious note on your personal keyboard. Perhaps the tongue lashings of the more seasoned posters, the 'heads of the forum' that have been referred to, have set a poor example for you. To Thomas, I think you will discover that Dyan is a chappess. And to myself. I wonder if this thread will die a timely death now? Surely it has been exhausted by now. And IDG just might consider separating the OT's into their own pen as in some other PC help forums. Groan, not another suggestion of what IDG might do with this forum. Well Thomus, on the subject of whether Dyan is a chap or a chapess, i have spent 2 years researching with much passion and detail and i am reasonably convinced Dyan is a chapess. She is coming over soon for a week, and i shall be delighted to do further extensive and detailed research.. Shall i post the results then, or shall we get the resuscitator out now? .Clueless |
