147258 2003-05-25 01:22:00 My dad uses AGI 32 for his lighting designs. None of us can remember installing anything new or changing anything. All of a sudden, it takes ages for my dad to do a simple calculation on AGI 32, and the graphics are terrible.

I have heard about some XP update that slows your computer down. Could this be the problem?

Windows XP Pro
Athlon XP 2100
1 GB DDR ram
Geforce 4 MX 460 - MSI drivers (30.80)
Direct X 9.0a

147259 2003-05-25 03:36:00 Don't know. :D

If you have done the "usual" ... deleting surplus temp files, and doing a defrag ... I'd suspect a virus infestation.

One way to cause a seriousd slowdown is to disable the caches. Check the BIOS settings.

Any more ideas, folks?

147260 2003-05-25 04:06:00 Those drivers sound really old for your card! Are they used for something specific?? Get the latest 44.xx drivers from nvida, apparently they'll have a 30%+ increase on previous drvers.

Whats that infamous update again, we get quite a few posts on it these days :p

*looks around*

*ay yes I remembered to bookmark it haha :)*

just remove the "Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) Q811493" in add/remove programs and reboot!

147262 2003-05-25 08:41:00 There was a bug in WinXP SP1 which would slow down a PC but I am sure MS has a patch to fix it. mikebartnz (21)
