| 146987 | 2003-05-24 02:20:00 | I am having problems trying to delete files from my R/W CD. I am using an HP CD Writer Plus with supplied software. My CD attributes are set at Read only and I not allowed to change them. Any ideas? All help appreciated. KB. | kbcad (1025) | ||

| 146989 | 2003-05-24 03:08:00 | Thanks for reply. I have DirectCD, Easy CD Creator and CD Copier. I am running on Win 98. I think this problem is fairly recent as I have deleted files before, but now I can't change the attributes. I tried a download from the PC World CD called attribute changer, but it gave me an error message saying drive was locked and therefor couldn't change attributes. KB. | kbcad (1025) | ||

There are 2 ways of formatting disks with the HP software I have, and I obviously used the wrong one this time, which explains why this is a new problem. Formatting using Direct CD creates what I need, but using Easy CD creates a read only disk. Trap for young players!!! Thanks again. KB. | kbcad (1025) | ||
| 146991 | 2003-05-24 04:17:00 | Having a Read-Only attribute should make no difference to whether you can delete your files. Obviously something has gone wrong if you were able to delete them previously - have you tried reinstalling your software? The other thing I can think of is that your discs may be CD-R rather than CD-RW and these will not be able to be deleted. If it is actually a CD-RW disc you could try reformatting it and saving your files onto it again. You can save the files you want to keep onto your hard drive prior to reformatting and then transfer them back to the CD afterwards. |

| 146994 | 2003-05-24 19:06:00 | Slightly off the topic, but I assume files managed with DirectCD are not *really* deleted in (a) a forensic sense (b) a space-recovery sense. I take it the use of a CD-R (sas opposed to a CD-RW) as a "spare hard drive", which seems to be accommodated by DirectCD will, in fact gradually fill up the disk, even though it may appear empty, or only partically full, in the directories. Are files really deleted even from a CD-RW? Argus |
