| 147629 | 2003-05-26 08:53:00 | OK... just a quick question... picked one of these up, and was wondering... it shows up as a removable disk in explorer... right clicking it gives the option to format it... Now when I select it, it gives me the option to format it, but also change it from Fat32 file structure to NTFS... is this safe?? Just wondering if it will let me do it, and if so, whether I could fit more data on it...??? Slightly confused... Lo. |

(The following is direct from the Web) Just be aware that when you format your USB memory drive with NTFS, you will lose a portion of its memory to the format file that NTFS uses . For example, on an 8MB memory drive, you may lose more than 1MB to the files that NTFS will place on it . Or on a 128MB memory drive, you may lose up to 8MB to NTFS files . Before formatting, be sure that you are willing to lose this space to NTFS . |

Its a while since I went to school but 256 MB vs 240 MB shouldn't be too hard to figure out? 256 MB = 256 MB = FAT32 256 MB - 16 MB = 240 MB = NTFS. But, factor in the block sizes of the data to be stored, it may (or may not) alter the amount you lose. If you know the file size of every file that is, but its highly unlikely you will know in advance. |
