If I do a ctrl-e then an apostrophe it does something but I would expect it to.

This is a real je ne c'est quois.

it only happens with the " ' key. when I press " key, I won't see the echo on the screen until I press the next key. quite annoying.
I also noticed that I can type some special symbols because of this.

When I tested in pure DOS mode, its ok. so it must be windows, as I can remember it used to be ok. I fiddled with keyboard settings/ changed kbs to no avail.
I wonder some reg settings can control that, or some sort of s/w changed it.

I ' m pretty sure when it is the quotation mark which it happens to, then it is the regional keyboard setting (must be set to US). I also believe that problem only occurs in XP.

It is not some half-hearted attempt at autocomplete/autocorrect process that is happening? Do you use these functions? Try turning them off if case they have got themselves into a tangle somewhere.

147479 2003-05-26 06:55:00 Hmmm, Jen

I thought about it a bit. Checked the language of a new email, versus a reply to someone this morning which did the thing. They were different.
The reply was English US, the new one English NZ. But when I changed the language of the reply, well a chunk of it, not all, it still did it, although less.

If it was autocorrect, it should do it all the time, and only when the word is complete, not partway through.

It is jolly perplexing.

147481 2003-05-26 08:11:00 Not a loose connection between the keyboard and the processor?

My daughter (18 mths) had a habit of pulling the keyboard off the table until a wire broke, so nothing came out on the screen until you moved the keyboard again.

Only in Word. Mostly in wordmail in Outlook.

Have you tried a different keyboard so as to establish it is not the keyboard at fault?
