147751 2003-05-27 00:54:00 I’ve just been given a computer that has a peculiar habit.

When closing down it gets to the Windows splash screen and the message “Windows is shutting down” and that’s it. It just hangs there. The message “It is now safe to turn off your computer” never appears.

I suspected it might be a corrupt file so I ran Scandisk with no problems reported and then formatted the disk and reinstalled win98se.

Still the problem persists.

Anyone any suggestions?

Cheers

147755 2003-05-27 07:32:00 Regardless whether or not you are connected to a network, if you do have a network card with a Realtek 8029 chipset, let me know.

I suffered hung shutdowns for 3 years until finally found a fix.
