147734 2003-05-27 00:13:00 my recently aquired laptop is running win98, and after accidently hitting delete ie6, it started to delete, so i turned off my L\top, after resart a message comes up fatal exeption 0E has occured at 0167:00000013. the current application will not terminate, then a message HIMEM.SYS missing, can anyone help with this please, thank's Terry redmax (3698)
147735 2003-05-27 00:17:00 Can you boot the system to safe mode?

If you can, try to uninstall IE6 and reinstall it.

Otherwise the simplest solution will be to reformat. By killing the computer partway through uninstalling the system, not only will you have lost track of the files that had been uninstalled and those that hadnt, you will have lost anything that was in memory but yet to be written to disk.

In future, if you accidentally select to delete something, LET it delete and worry about recovering it afterwards. Its much harder to do when something is half deleted.

147738 2003-05-27 07:22:00 Seems to me that reinstalling himem.sys would be a bertter start as the loss of IE shouldn't stop windows. That file can probably be found on your W98 CD.

Alternatively I would do a reinstall of Win 98 over the top of the existing install then reinstall IE 6 as well.

Neither may help but I certainly wouldn't reformat this early in the piece.

Cheers
