148133 2003-05-28 11:31:00 You want the best monitor you can get?

You need to get a Sony flatscreen (not lcd btw). They are the best on the market because they use Sony's patented Apeture Grill (spelling?) technology, which is pretty unbeatable. They are a little more expensive, but are worth every dollar apparently and you won't have any problems with them :)

Other than that you can try lcd technology. Not sure if their very good for gamers yet?

148134 2003-05-28 11:38:00 Yes, the Trinitron screens are great. I have also seen a few viewsonics that use it too.

IIRC the patent ran out a couple of years ago, so I'm suprised there aren't more around.

148135 2003-05-28 11:50:00 The Philips 109P40 uses the Sony "B" tubes. -=JM=- (16)
148136 2003-05-28 18:29:00 I recently bought a 19" monitor from DSE for $396. Though it is branded DSE it is actually a re-badged Proview. I am very happy with it have no complaints of any sort.
It may not be perfect but it suits me. Jack.

148138 2003-05-29 19:53:00 And if it is not a Philips make with a Philips tube it would be a B tube as well. E.ric (351)
148139 2003-05-30 04:39:00 I just noticed on the back of my Sony Trinitron 17" monitor that it was manufactured in July 1996. I have had it from new, so I guess it wasn't far off that date when I bought it.

That should be an indicator of the quality of Sony monitors (or at least their longevity). I thought it cost an arm and a leg at the time, but I guess that isn't too bad over nearly 7 years...

Now I wonder if it owes me anything and whether I could trade up to a LCD monitor (drool).

Works great, very crisp text, although monitor is slightly curved and not perfectly flat
