148124 2003-05-28 06:32:00 I use a LG 900b 19" CRT. Got it for $480 (incl GST) off starlyte computers (starlyte.co.nz I think).

Cheers

148126 2003-05-28 06:41:00 QMB.co.nz will offer you a cheap 17" for around $200 + GST :-) Chilling_Silently (228)
148127 2003-05-28 06:47:00 heh,the cheapies at qmb have.27dot pitch.

That is to be avoided,go for a .25.

The measument is the gap between the pixels,.27 will give a blurry picture.

148128 2003-05-28 09:13:00 When I decided to buy a 19" monitor I bought a cheaper "Proview".
Well I can tell you it looked very nice sitting on my table until I switched it on.
When I had a white background such as word or even PressF1 it looked cloudy. EG: the background was not a uniform colour.
I tried a monitor test program given to me by Terry Porritt & I was very disapointed with the results when displaying single colours such as Red,Green & blue.
The retailer was very good & gave me another monitor to try, But after trying 3 Proviews I opted for the Philips 109S & have had no regrets since.
I also noticed the Budget monitor looked grainy compared to the Philips & put it down to the different dot pitch.
Last week I replaced the kids ageing monitor & didn't hesitate to get a philips 17".

My advice is to spend a few extra bucks & get a name brand such as Philips, Viewsonic,Etc

Hope this helps.
Cheers Steve

148129 2003-05-28 09:20:00 Philips 109p; once you've gone flat you will never go back...shame the sony is so expensive. TerryW (2183)
148130 2003-05-28 09:25:00 As Steve says, good idea to get the best you can afford, the cheaper ones will never be really satisfactory. Also so many web sites now seem to be designed around 1024x768 resolution, that it's almost essential to have a 17" or 19" monitor, a 15" is struggling a bit. Terry Porritt (14)
148131 2003-05-28 10:56:00 I would recomend phillips too, for a cheaper monitor. I have a 107T. The first one I got had a fault so they sent me a new one and picked up the old one fairly quickly, which is handy when you don't have a car. They even offered to find me a temporary replacement since it had to come down from auckland.

My old 17" was a cheap KTX (repackaged samsung I think) and the picture was quite bad, the focus and the moire went at 13 months. Also it was impossible to get a pure black on it, because everything was always slightly lit up.

148132 2003-05-28 11:07:00 I've got a 17" Flat. AOC 7Klr+ it is.

Not the best of monitors (cheap) and generally speaking get what you pay for with a monitor. What I'd like is a 19" 109P40 or the Samsung 19" if I was going to upgrade soon and get a reasonable quality one.
