148648 2003-05-30 10:33:00 I have a semi-new computer (bought Jan 02) running WinXP Home - with SP1 Installed.

Situation:
*Every time I try to run Netmeeting the computer freezes up and I have to hit reset
*Every time I try to run Remote Assistance the computer freezes, and I have to reset
*Quite often, after I log in, it freezes before all the icons in the system tray are loaded (actually none of the icons loaded)
*System is unstable, freezes or crashes quite often
*I have lost my taskbar - the bit between the start button/quicklaunch and the system tray (as I have mentioned in a previous post)

So... what do you guys think? Should I reformat and reinstall windows? Or should I not bother with the effort

148649 2003-05-30 10:38:00 Do a search for XP SP1 on PF1 and or patch. There have been major problems for some with SP1 slowing comps down to a crawl.

148652 2003-05-30 21:50:00 Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try reloading SP1. I'm also just backing up all my stuff in case I decide to reformat. somebody (208)
148653 2003-05-31 01:29:00 i know people who reformat every week!

personally i format every 6 months or so, just to get rid of all those redundant shareware programs, etc.
