1338512 2013-04-27 22:03:00 IE9 with Vista.
What causes IE9 to stop adding visited external sites to the "History" directory, but not internal (to the pc) files etc? Simultaneously, visited sites are no longer highlighted with my preferred colour setting.
The problem only began occuring recently with this pc.
The problem, which generally occurs after a number of months, can be 'corrected' by running 'CleanUp!' but, unfortunately, all of the previous browsing history is deleted, which is a nuisance.

1338513 2013-04-29 04:02:00 IE9 treats XP and Vista as second-class citizens.

1338514 2013-04-29 04:11:00 That's not what the person asked.
:)

1338515 2013-04-29 08:20:00 Thanks Trev. You are right; that is exactly what I didn't ask.
The problem has only started to occur recently.
A few things I have tried are: Deleting, via IE Tools, Temp Int files, Cookies, Form Data, Passwords, Activ X filtering, and increased Browsing History space from 250MB to 1000MB (as a trial). All to no avail.
Such a big forum - so few answers. Can't anybody help? Really?
Or do I have to bite the bullet and run 'CleanUp'. Would be nice to keep my IE browsinh history.
And to confirm: recently visited documents from "My Docs" i.e. this pc, are added to the browsing history.

1338516 2013-04-29 11:35:00 Reading what you have done, doesn't actually say if you have done the following: Resetting IE. Deleting as mentioned is NOT resetting.

Lately there has a been a few updates come out that cause IE to lock up and do other stupid things.

If you haven't already done so, open IE, go to Tools/ Internet Options / Advanced tab, there are two buttons Restore advanced settings and restore - click both, close IE and try again. This will wipe the lot, and reset IE back its defaults including the home page, any custom settings, history and any saved passwords.

Don't worry about the history / Ccleaner for the moment - you can disable that in Ccleaner later, to do that open Ccleaner on the windows Tab are all the settings ticked by default, simply untick the ones you want to keep and Ccleaner will leave them alone.

1338517 2013-04-29 11:48:00 Okay, jumped a bit there, install Ccleaner as a clean up option -- (This should have been at the front of last sentence, but the stupid timer ran out). wainuitech (129)
1338518 2013-04-29 12:45:00 wainuitech, I think you've missed the point.
Why should I reset ANY settings back to "default", when they are infact the default settings anyway - always have been, and I see no point in changing them. And not having adjusted anything, why would it be that all is 'restored' to normal after running 'CleanUp'? NOT CCleaner, btw.
My question, essentially, is "What changes, that causes this phenomenon, and what can I do to prevent it happening?"

1338519 2013-04-29 21:10:00 I Haven't missed the point at all.

As I mentioned a while back windows did some updates and it changed certain things, which caused some setting In IE to have been changed as well, or altered the way IE works.

Lately there have had MANY calls including all our computers here, IE stated doing funny things, there were never any custom settings or anything. By simply resetting IE back to its defaults it has each and every time fixed the problems.

What you are doing is simply deleted existing actions ( history etc)

Resetting IE may or may not fix it, but its not going to hurt it.

What kingdragonfly posted, while it may not answer your question - I'll agree with what was posted, IE9 + Vista can cause problems. IE9 is really meant for Windows 7 but does work (sometimes) in Vista since W7 was built from vista.
I've got a customers Vista Laptop here and after installing IE 9 there was a noticeable difference in speed when opening IE, it slowed right down, removed IE9 and it was good as gold again.

You made the comment earlier on:
Such a big forum - so few answers. Can't anybody help? Really? Sometimes people wont answer because no matter what is suggested the poster thinks they know better and wont try any suggestions.

1338520 2013-04-29 22:30:00 Perhaps old_a_g you're getting so few responses, because you forgot the adage "you get more flies with honey than vinegar"

If you're not happy with the quality of the responses, may I suggest hiring someone to fix your computer?
