1338360 2013-04-25 06:00:00 Hi

Neither my wife nor I are able to send emails when we are away from home. My devices - laptop and Nexus 7, (the former using Outlook as email client and ESS as firewall/email security). My wife is using an iPad. In each case the email goes to the Outbox and just sits there.

I simply haven't been able to solve this - do any of you have a solution please?

1338361 2013-04-25 06:09:00 What method are you using to get internet access when away from home? Jen (38)
1338362 2013-04-25 06:18:00 Hi Jen.

We have tried using WIFI on the Interislander and now at my daughter's place. We had the same problem using WIFI at our other daughter's place and at an internet hotspot in WA. We can receive email on all devices via WIFI but cannot send.

1338363 2013-04-25 06:24:00 If your ISP is different from your daughter's, the other ISP can block you from sending emails (ie: Xtra will). Speedy Gonzales (78)
1338364 2013-04-25 06:59:00 OK, thanks. I suppose I should check that out with Woosh tomorrow. They are my daughter's ISP. John H (8)
1338365 2013-04-25 07:07:00 All ISPs will block you sending through their outgoing server if your internet connection is not with them at the time.
If they don't their mail server will very quickly end up on a spam black list

What you need to do is set Outlook and the iPad outgoing server settings to SSL on (secure outgoing server)
Change the port to 465 if it doesn't do it automatically
You may also need to enter your ISP username and password for the outgoing server
Safari (3993)
1338366 2013-04-25 07:39:00 All the 5 or so ISPs I have used will block the smtp server when sending mail out. You have to be using internet off them before you can send email.

You can use webmail ...

1338367 2013-04-25 07:50:00 Just another good reason to abandon ISP's email and get an Gmail account. (or Fastmail.fm or mail.com etc) decibel (11645)
1338368 2013-04-25 07:54:00 If you are with Orcon and you go to the daughter's place and it's Woosh. Just change the smtp address to Woosh's temporarily .... Nomad (952)
1338369 2013-04-25 08:21:00 Thanks folks . I think it is a lost cause - I have tried all of the above suggestions and it still doesn't work . I guess no-one likes TelstraClear .

I will have to use webmail, which is a pain cos I don't have my email addresses there - OK to reply to someone, but a pain to initiate emails .

Thanks anyway .
