1314109 2012-11-22 16:22:00 As I have already said in a early posting I have lost interest. I said as I was listening to someone a few weeks ago, everyone of his sentence contained a word, I will not narrow down it any further about from the fact the word is 'obnoxious' over used more suitable used for the lower class.

In my quest to try and make that word redundant (at least here), and try and find a watered down word, two or three words that everyone could use that is publicly more acceptable, to illustrate how stressed out they feel.

On Wednesday the 21th I get totally stressed by forum 'mentality', been told we have young family members who's parents have or might complain about my posting on this topic, which in fact I was trying help out those parents by stopping their children falling and getting stuck in the groove, by been over exposed to this word. Yet in some others post we have that magic letter followed by three asterisks and ending in 'ing'. If one can not work out that word, one would not have a high enough IQ to be able to log on here at this web site forum, you may as well use the other letters in place of the three asterisks.

Quite frankly I dont think this is acceptable, from what I was told on Wednesday.

As I have done computer programming, I think it would be a interesting task to delete the whole sentence from anybody's posting if anybody tried to use that word at this forum from the first uppercase letter before the 'f' to the next full stop after the 'k', as even seeing four, six or seven asterisks in a row and reading the rest of sentence it would be very clear what that word is. It would be a slightly harder programming task to let the posting go on 'as is' then automatically delete the sentence or whole posting after the 'edit' time has expired.

1314110 2012-11-22 20:04:00 I think the point is if you can work out what f*** is then you are all ready s****** - You probably don't know what s****** is... but that doesn't make you unintelligent or unable to log on. The reason we mentally recognize f*** as the glorious F word (and all other swears) is because of the way the human brain recognizes and substitutes visual cues. This is similar to the way in which you can raed a sectnce lkie tihs because your brain recognises the appropriate begging and end characters along with correct character count.

The point of all this being, if someone can look at F*** and f*** and recognize them as both the f word expressed angrily and passively then they must all ready have learned the expletives prior. There is no point altering the system since anyone who sees these phrases and recognizes them will have all ready been corrupted by the world as you put it.

That being said, if there is a strong enough feeling here to reduce the use of expletive language then perhaps we could have a discussion to remove such vocab from our posts as opposed to covering up the problem with nanny techniques and censorship.

1314111 2012-11-22 20:08:00 I'm a little bemused that you might call it "nanny techniques" and "censorship". I don't know who set up the curse filter here, FWIW. It's been around forever and in every forum I frequent. I don't even know if it's on by default.

But at least one important reason for it is that some people can't use the forum at work if there are frequent curse words, because their workplace will block it.

1314113 2012-11-22 21:32:00 @Frank_sumbody, the world is already full of rules, we don't need any more people imposing their warped view of the world onto others, if you don't like what is done on this forum:

BUGGER OFF!!!!!!!!!

Frank didn't suggest any rules, zqwerty. He was talking about an interesting programming challenge, as I understood it.

1314115 2012-11-22 21:55:00 I understand that the censorship in place is fine, rather I agree with its placement however obstructing whole phrases is probably taking it too far, either make it a rule that there is no cussing or let it be. If you start trying to protect the world too much it gets out of hand. Not saying that that is likely to happen here, but still. The Error Guy (14052)

Yeah, I'm a fan of maximal usefulness to maximum people. Which to me precludes whole-phrase obstruction.

Here, too, it's really not an issue. Asides from occasional bouts of grouchiness, this is a pretty well-behaved forum.

...but I think Frank wants to treat this as a hypothetical. Is that right, Frank?

Oh clap clap clap! Congratulations! So have 90% of the rest of the forum members :D

In all seriousness though, if you want to alienate yourself even further from the user base here, keep up with these sort of threads - we love them and those that make them.
