Oh yes there were screaming people running around panicing! Eyewitness report.......grab a Tui. I was at Keatahi carpark waiting for a group to come off the mountain, it took a while for us to realise what was happening. Just a bigger plume of steam and gas started rising. I never gave it a thought as I was eating my lunch until someone said "is that an eruption". "Na" was my reply just a good belch of steam. From where I was it did not look much (like literally underneath), after that it got interesting with the cops arriving and my phone going nuts. Biggest hassle was picking people up from two differant points as a few turned around back to the start. Yes a fun day and yes got photographs that wont be appearing on the world wide web without a few bucks in exchange...lol Bit peeved though as now the crossing is closed and the alternative of Ruapehu Crater Lake is also off limits.(good bye summer income and hello winz) |
