- heres my 1st experience of sorting out the BASIC issues for a customer
If a home/small business user has to get outside help to get the most basic user functionality, then MS has a big issue.

Customer bought a new Win8 PC , they setup the user a/c & installed office

- he couldnt get the mail to work.He didnt know Mail 'tile' is not Outlook. Installing office did not add a Outlook 'tile' .
In fact the mail tile just confused the issue, wanting a (win live?) password , mentioning outlook a/c (Im guessing that is actually ms's new Outlook.com hotmail replacement)
- Installing Office didnt add word, excel etc to the main metro screen(it only added access). These had to be added manually by me later. Easy if you know how, NOT EASY for 1st time Win8 users.
Installing the Win8 HP printer driver put all sorts of BS 'tiles' on the metro desktop. All sorts of HP Crap & cluttter: IE HP help, HP shop for consumables, HP this, HP that. All the needed was the tile for the MFC scan function.
- User couldnt find the document folder, "where is the desktop. How do I uninstall programs without the start menu" "Why so hard to get to my doc's"
- 'calendar' should bring up a calender to look at, not want you to sign into some MS online a/c .

I allready get many customers seriously considering the move to Mac's , I think this will just convince many to go Mac once the word gets out from disgruntled home users.
Sure its not that hard for those who are PC savvy. Many are not PC savvy .

1313720 2012-11-20 23:27:00 It seems amazing how big influential companies make such stupid mistakes but then you look at governments and see what a hash they are making of running countries and messing up the lives of people living in it and it is not so surprising after all.

The pursuit of the holy dollar is at the root of most things and MS has tried to monetarise their latest operating system hence the ungodly mess.

1313723 2012-11-21 00:17:00 I wouldnt even bother with the metro screen. If he/she knows windows 7 then install something like classic menu. Then you'll get a menu, and a start button Speedy Gonzales (78)

1313725 2012-11-21 00:19:00 I received this web address today in the Windows News email. It is an open letter to Microsoft headed, 'My Open Letter to Julie Larson-Green: 4 simple changes you need to make to “fix” Windows 8.' It could have some relevance to this thread.

Read here. (www.windows8update.com)

1313726 2012-11-21 01:25:00 To uninstall: right-click an app and click Uninstall. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the upcoming Office 2013 does add Word, Excel etc. tiles to the Start screen. pcuser42 (130)
