| 1313503 | 2012-11-19 22:32:00 | Because it's not a real word (IMO) but rather a made up term intended as an insult it can mean whatever people want it to when they use it. Slang tends to continuously change in meaning over time and from one place to another. Most commonly it refers to someone who's very intellectual and perhaps socially inept, often also associated with lack of sporting ability or physical prowess. Sheldon from the Big bang theory would seem to be the poster boy for the common usage. There's been a trend for people to use Geek or Nerd in reference to themselves and not in an insulting way, calling yourself a "computer geek" is really just like saying you like computers and consider yourself fairly competant. |

Geeks have as normal a social life as anyone, and usually the only way to tell if someone is a geek is if they inform you of their skills. A person who sometimes acts in a manner which can be considered odd or abnormal. They also know that they are slightly odd or abnormal and fully accept this. :waughh: Speaking of which -- off to a :nerd: job. |
