1314355 2012-11-27 06:14:00 You wouldn't know because you were not in NZ at the time. It was popular but removed because of its strength, I remember well starting drinking at lunchtime on Saturday and be totally flako by 5 pm. Normally with DB draught I could last to about 3 in the morning before falling over. Sometimes would get the drinking yourself sober effect
Taste isn't everything with beer its no good if its weak as cats piss. Cant drink for effect if the body is getting rid of the alcohol faster than you are tipping it down your neck. They go about youth of today binge drinking meh the pansies today wouldn't have even made the grade in my day.

Beer isn't rated on alcohol content alone if it was all the P*ss heads would be drinking undiluted spirits

1314357 2012-11-27 06:22:00 Renaissance Brewery in Blenheim do a nice range, although I understand they have changed hands recently.

Other than that I am partial to almost any of Mike's beers from New Plymouth....

1314358 2012-11-27 19:22:00 ??? I'm puzzled by the comments???

Isn't DB Export Dry only $22 for 15 bottles? How can you get better than that?

5%, screwtop - it's got it all!

(but keep some Mac's Hop for visitors)

Their stout is very solid indeed. NZ stouts are some of the best in the world, IMHO. 8-Wired iStout, 3 Boys Oyster Stout, Emerson's Southern Clam Stout, Invercargill Pitch Black - all sampled this year by me, and all deemed excellent.

(There's a St Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout which is also amazing - Canadian, though.)
