1313449 2012-11-21 00:03:00 Around 70% of them are overpaid the other 30% are underpaid. Good teachers should be paid more. I cannot understand why the teachers unions are so much apposed to performance pay. It is basic human nature to be reluctant to work harder than the next guy if it is of no possible advantage to oneself.

I think you'll find that most teachers would not be averse to the potential to earn more.

However the sticking point is how to measure the performance so that it is fair. There is little point in measuring via pupil performance in exams - no-one would want to teach the slow-learners!

That, and the fact that the measurement of the performance would create more overhead for schools to absorb - someone would have to be administering the performance measurement on a daily basis in every classroom (I'm all for creating jobs, but let's create jobs that actually add some value to the economy!!) and that classroom presence (however it might be implemented) could be disruptive to the learning process for the kids.

1313452 2012-11-21 00:23:00 Most teachers are left leaning commies and if there was a labor government in power you wouldn't have heard a chirp. Like how many school teacher do you know that go duck, pig and deer shooting? They just like winding up the Ed Minister who I feel sorry for, she has been given a hospital pass portfolio with those commies to boot.
The department signed up to novopay when the labor party was in power.

Wasting breath on our resident commies.

I agree its got to be measurable. One of my boys went to a very low decile school primary school, he did very well got top marks and dux but the most of kids there were tucker. Most of the little ****s were only there because they had to be there very disruptive. The school had lower than average achievements and was in ERO review with a commissioner in charge. No way should my boys teachers there get less pay than teachers at White and asian area schools with higher marks. In fact seriously I reckon they should have got more for putting up with kids that were disruptive and disrespectful. The performance pay increases would have to measured at one school teacher against teacher but it would be a complicated formula to work out and fraught with possible errors.
I used to tell teachers there they were doing a great job with very difficult students and I admired them , If I was a teacher I would last one day and smash the kids into next week. Had one teacher break down and cry because no parents had thanked her before.

Well done Pre, I am proud of you too, as well as the teacher that is.

1313456 2012-11-21 07:56:00 I do think that the education ministry should have come out and publicly apologized early on.
And they should also have given us some facts and figures.
That way the public would have understood things better.

1313457 2012-11-21 19:43:00 Who watched the interview on Campbell live last night? I personally thought novopay didn't come out looking too great. Nick G (16709)
1313458 2012-11-21 19:44:00 If anyone watched Campbell Live last night, John had the CEO of Talent2 on his show ... the guy was more than a little uncomfortable and couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. Most of the questions put to him were answered with the stock standard "commercially sensitive and can't answer that".

I'm waiting for John Campbell to get the tender information requested through the OIA ... the CEO was extremely defensive when it came to answering the questions regarding the tendering process and John was implying that there may be something dodgy going on ... and THAT wouldn't surprise me at all. The initial tender information TV3 were given, had a lot of the information blacked out on two of the tenders ... going to be interesting to find out what they were trying to hide.

And has anyone heard from where the Hekia is Parata lately ... no bloody chance, she's just passed the buck to her underlings to take the flack.

I do actually feel quite annoyed that the teachers aren't getting paid and just hope that the end of year holiday pays go through OK for them ... but have a suspicion that the need for a Tui is imminent.
