1339501	2013-05-03 10:40:00	Strange, as I can't say I ever saw a slow down with MSSE and I have installed it on a few machines, now. Is fine on a Vista system here and it was no problem on my win 7 version of this machine. But I was having very recent problems with win 8's Defender but, cross fingers, it seems to have settled down. Time will tell!	linw (53)

At what stage are you defining boots? Time for the desktop to become useable? This time is often used by AV progs to check startups etc and the aggravation caused is greatly dependent on RAM, CPU and disk speed. Another reason for sleeping machines rather than shutting them down!	linw (53)

Avast antivirus didn't noticeably slow my laptop down as much as mse, but when i first installed mse, that also didn't slow my computer down either.	jonovw (16835)
1339504	2013-05-03 12:02:00	User; if you do go back to Avast, remember to disable Auto Updates in the settings and you should be ok but I can't stress the importance of having other malware scanners on hand-I have about six- for anything your main AV software misses. I check for Avast updates twice weekly at a time that suits me, not when the prog decides to check. This applies to most of my installed progs, including Win updates so that I get no interrupting slowdown periods. Avast is now vers 8.0.1483.	blanco (11336)
1339505	2013-05-03 13:05:00	Had / have similar irregularities with MSE - it runs fine on my Vista laptop, ie no noticeable difference whether it's running or not, but dramatically slowed my friend's Win7 machine. Weird.	Greg (193)
1339506	2013-05-03 20:02:00	I use Windows Defender, and had also noticed severe slow downs, but only after it had found some malware. It became hell-bent on getting rid of this file, which was too big to quarantine. I'd instructed it to ignore the file, but at each startup it was crawling while it tried to secure things. Once I decided to delete the file with the malware it's been faultless ever since.	Paul.Cov (425)
1339507	2013-05-03 20:42:00	Strange I have MSSE here on 4 desktops 2 running WIn7 2 running XP and also on a Win7 starter netbook all run normally, I did try the trial of Nod as I thought MSSE might have been causing an email issue which it wasn't, Nod actually made them all boot slower	gary67 (56)
1339508	2013-05-03 21:30:00	Big mystery why we are seeing different performance efficiencies from MSE. Nice to know what might cause this. Guess we'll never know. However, it seems to be particular computer related rather than OS related so maybe there are files/errors that stump MSE as Paul pointed out.	linw (53)
1339509	2013-05-04 10:53:00	I tried Search & Destroy 2 as per Wainui's post, pretty impressed by the full scan. Found some rubbish, and some settings that needed changing. It will also intergrate with MSSE, so I am trying that at the moment.	PPp (9511)
