Some havnt been paid for months "A month ago there were nearly 7500 errors. Two weeks later this was down to 4300, and yesterday the backlog was about 400." www.stuff.co.nz " There were 92,465 school staff successfully paid this cycle, with 15 non-payments identified by yesterday afternoon. The backlog of priority problems had decreased from 8000 a month ago, to about 460. " This is of most concern.. money well spent by govt depts again (yes, sarcasm) "The Education Ministry agreed to pay Australian company Talent2 $100.5 million to build and run its Novopay payroll system for eight years, a ministry spokesman says. And the school boards are supposed to pay any teachers not paid. By my reckoning that equates to half a teacher in a city the size of Tauranga. Hardly a national disaster as that idiot teacher advocate is making it out to be. |

The backlog of priority problems had decreased from 8000 a month ago, to about 460. " I think the key issue here is around how they define "errors ". The system is actually remarkably complex and needs to handle a whole heap of scenarios: The schools payroll pays 100,000 people a year (it is New Zealands largest payroll) on many different terms and conditions. For example, there are 10,000 possible combinations of allowances. Source: computerworld.co.nz The way the media has portrayed it makes the whole situation sound like it's caused by a large number of software defects, which more than likely isn't the case. It would be quite interesting to see how many payment errors were made under the old system. |

| 1313443 | 2012-11-20 08:08:00 | The fuss isn't over mistakes being made, rather then how the mistakes were handled. I'm sure the staff at talent2 would make a big deal if the same happened to them. I have had missed pays, but also had a boss that bent over backwards to put it right as soon as possible | plod (107) | ||
| 1313444 | 2012-11-20 20:27:00 | Funny how some choose to ignore figures that dont fit their pre-conceptions "A month ago there were nearly 7500 errors. Two weeks later this was down to 4300, and yesterday the backlog was about 400." Im sure if you had issue with YOUR pay for months , & still ongoing, you wouldnt think it was so trivial. Ive previously been in the position of not being paid(a few years back) . Its not pleasant having to seriously consider having to start selling your stuff just to pay the bills . So dont imply this is a trivial thing overblown by the media. These guys were paid MILLIONS to get this right. |

| 1313445 | 2012-11-20 21:11:00 | <snip> And the school boards are supposed to pay any teachers not paid. </snip> With what? School Boards do not have access to cash. They merely govern/administer budgets. School Boards have had no direct control over paying teachers since bulk funding was thrown out by Helen Clark and her cronies. It's a MinEd function these days - has been for around 10 years... |

| 1313447 | 2012-11-20 22:08:00 | How many got overpaid?? Around 70% of them are overpaid the other 30% are underpaid. Good teachers should be paid more. I cannot understand why the teachers unions are so much apposed to performance pay. It is basic human nature to be reluctant to work harder than the next guy if it is of no possible advantage to oneself. |

| 1313448 | 2012-11-20 23:12:00 | Most teachers are left leaning commies and if there was a labor government in power you wouldn't have heard a chirp. Like how many school teacher do you know that go duck, pig and deer shooting? They just like winding up the Ed Minister who I feel sorry for, she has been given a hospital pass portfolio with those commies to boot. The department signed up to novopay when the labor party was in power. |
