1313370 2012-11-20 04:19:00 Thanks for your help and yes know there will be units tucked away in lots of different places and just a matter of finding them!
What sparked this interest was watching a doco on US Presidents. A mate and I were on business in San Francisco in Sept 1975 when Gerry Ford was shot at in Union Square and afterwards waiting in our plane we saw Air Force One take off in a screaming hurry and our flight crew patched through the control tower. It was a most interesting moment in history and hopefully will find some of that in one of the tapes.
Have had a quote of $400 to transcribe the 18 tapes......guess if get desperate will have to cough up!

1313371 2012-11-20 05:15:00 You may have to suck it and see. I would think if such bits and pieces of history have been captured, the returns may be appreciably in excess of $400.00.

Personally, it may be of much value as a commentary on Gerry falling down the steps of Airforce One. :devil

1313372 2012-11-20 09:10:00 I understand your quandry but can't help unfortunately.

As best I recall, the Grundig machines used specific large form of mini-cassette (but not a regular cassette), Phillips Sanyo etc used mini, and Olympus (followed by the others) turned to micro. Then digital came along and it was marvellous.

We threw out the mini and micro machines years ago although I might have a micro somewhere - gave it to the children to play with. Unlikely though and no help to you.

Its the type of thing which turns up at charity shops like Salvation Army and Habitat For Humanity.

Something worth trying: phone a few doctors and lawyers offices and ask if they have an old machine. There is a reasonable chance one will turn up. I know we kept old machines for years in case the new stuff broke.

Is this what you are looking for? It is a Philips Model 590, and on the back it has the ID Type LFM 0590/00
and also 8935 069 00001.

It was working OK last time I checked it, but since then I think I may have tossed out the recorded cassettes, keeping only one blank, so I can't check playback.

PM me if you think it might be helpful.

Cheers
