| 1339320 | 2013-05-01 23:01:00 | I thought Terabyte hard drive troubles were a thing of the past. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought one on the 1st. of march. It is a Western Digital "My Passport" external USB drive. the software that came with it has all been installed, and updated Now just about every day it goes off line and has to be disconnected and re-connected before it will work, though yesterday it came back on line when the computer was restarted. You guys are better informed than I. What can you tell me about this problem, and what I should do about it? |

| 1339323 | 2013-05-01 23:32:00 | Is it a brand name USB HD, or some 3rd party box or just a HD stuck in a USB enclosure? Its probably an issue with your PC, not the USB drive ** dont use front USB ports , use the rear USB ports (if its a PC) Some PC's dont work well with some USB3 devices possibly some power saving mode on the PC disconnecting the USB HD or putting the USB ports into low power/power saving hybernation/sleep mode on the PC can cause this disconnects If its a backup drive **DONT LEAVE IT PERMANENTLY CONNECTED ** If there is a major issue on the PC, that drive could also get zapped/corrupted at the same time, wiping out any backups Best practice is to do a backup, the remove the USB drive & put it somewhere safe. |

This is from my original post! "It is a Western Digital "My Passport" external USB drive" I find it annoying that so many people reply to post that they haven't really`READ`. |

| 1339328 | 2013-05-02 05:22:00 | On the subject of Hubs, I've had various types fail on me over the years, so if you must use a hub (I'm not going to crawl under my desk everytime I want to plug in something different, and I don't use the front ports) what is the current recommended brand? I have reported your post which I find as offensive as your first one was useless. Your question had been answered in my original post. |
