1313685 2012-11-20 09:12:00 Hi

I have a weird issue.

I recently bought a digital camera, Nikon p7700.
Weird thing is, I charged the battery right up. I place it inside the camera and switch the camera off. After several days when I try to turn it off the battery is flat.

Is this a known issue for digital cameras or a weird one?

Thx

1313686 2012-11-20 09:26:00 Shouldn't do that, is it under warranty? KarameaDave (15222)
1313687 2012-11-20 10:07:00 When you say you just bought it - when was it really? Batteries generally are not warranted as long as the device themselves, but I would think for a good few months ...

I see it has a lithium battery. They should not do that. I have a Nikon li-on battery from my 6MP SLR, bought in 2003, still quite good. Li-on without usage should hold a charge at least a few weeks. Is the battery a genuine Nikon? Some knockoffs indeed may be that low quality ... As for a good point and shoot camera - Canons are better even from the Nikon enthusiasts camp. They make good SLRs thou. The S95 or the newer ones are quite good, someone I know who has a Nikon D3 has the S95. There is the G5 or whatever but quite a bit more pricey ..

1313688 2012-11-20 10:14:00 Try to see if there is a firmware update, digital cameras gets these things often. It could also be the camera. Nomad (952)
1313689 2012-11-20 19:23:00 Try fully charging the battery up, but don't put in the camera. Leave it for a few days, even a week, and then put it in the camera and turn it on. Does it turn on, and if so, what's the battery level?

Could be two things happening here, the battery could be stuffed and not holding a charge, or the camera could still be drawing power from the battery even when it should be fully shut down.

1313691 2012-11-20 19:40:00 $650 to $770 not bad,

I had a cheap $99 one (it was on special) it went through batteries 4*AA like there was no next week, so I went and got rechargeable ones, and more for spares so when I went out I had a pocket full, ready, waiting.

1313692 2012-11-20 19:52:00 That's my one and one only reason for not buying a camera with a battery pack. I will only buy ones that use normal batteries, since when I go away I already have a pocket full of AA batteries for my GPS, head torch etc and also my camera.

But that's not right it should stay charged if its still new take it back as its faulty

1313693 2012-11-20 20:16:00 My Nikon DSLR is four years old, and it's held battery for 3 months, while off - heck, it might have held it longer except that I used it...

So, something sounds wrong there. Head back to the retailer and get it sorted.
