2003-06-03 06:37:00 | Ive recently gone and bought Sims and House Party... Now.. Its great under Doze, but Im looking to completely remove doze from my PC soon.. So, With WineX I know you can get the Sims to work, but how? I open up a command line and type: # winex3 setup.exe and it goes to a new blank line like this: # So, what do I needa do to get it going? Cheers Chill.

2003-06-03 12:44:00 | Well... It was working in RedHat 8.. I could run Remote Administrator and a ton of other stuff.. games and things... but now Ive formatted 8 to do a clean install of 9, and Im getting errors even on that :'( | Chilling_Silently (228) | |
2003-06-03 12:56:00 | Hmmm. I just remembered I got the same thing when I built it from source on mandrake 9.1. For some reason I had to start 'wineserver' manually before it would work. It might be worth a try.

2003-06-03 13:00:00 | Open up an Xterm (as user or su) and type win, hit tab and there's no wineserver, but I do remember seeing it when some WineX apps crashed.. There's winex and winex 3... and two other items. How would I start it? I only have the rpms for winex and winex3 :-)

2003-06-03 13:25:00 | hmm again. Every version I've used has had it in some form. It probably has a different name. For me it installed the main executable as 'wine' rather than 'winex'. A couple of things that will help you hunt it down: - If it exists, it will probably be in the same place as the winex executable. - Running 'which winex' will tell you the path to of the winex executable. - 'locate wine' will find it if its not in your $PATH (and your locate database is up to date). - 'rpm -q winex --list' will give you a list of all files it installed, assuming thats package name it uses. I don't have it installed (and it takes ages to complie) so I don't have anything specific.

2003-06-03 13:43:00 | Hmmm... Okay.. Well.. WineX not working is still a valid question for me, but it appears I'll be needing to get the rpm of the Sims for Mandrake... Im sure they said they'd managed to get it going? Ah.. well.. But anyways, nothing else under /usr/bin/ to do with wine, nor when I run rpm -q do I see anything else like wineserver, which it was called in RH8?
