149202 2003-06-02 02:40:00 Hello

I am using Excel 97 on Windows 2000.
Every time I open up a spreadsheet to work on, I go to click on a cell, then move the mouse around it selects all the cells that pointer is moving to. Also when I press the tags down below saying sheet 1 or sheet 2 the pointer gets a what looks like a folded page next to it and moves with the pointer.
I can not use any of the keys to get out of excel like Esc. For me to close down Excel I must use the 3 finger salute.

Your help would be very much appreciated

149203 2003-06-02 02:47:00 I can't answer your first question, but to close it down, try Alt-F4, that closes most programs.

Alt-F4 is also a boon for closing down pop-ups faster than they can arrive on screen, especially those that start from spam emails.

149204 2003-06-02 02:57:00 How about a faulty left micro-switch on the mouse?

Or, just a faulty mouse, or cord, or plug or or or!

I can reproduce your fault by holding down the left button.

149206 2003-06-02 10:46:00 OK - so what happens if you use shift/arrow keys instead of mouse......if selections extend correctly, then your squeeker is suspect. If not, then maybe Excel needs reloading.
