149637 2003-06-04 04:29:00 Now I no that Press F1 has heaps of multiple monitors threads
but i was wanting to no
if i hav a
APG GeForce 2 MX400
and a
PCI Compatible Multimonitor say 8MB

lets say i'm playing quake with 2 screens
will the 8mb slow down the performance the game
or is the 8mb just used to expand the first screen powered by the geforce.

Hope this has made sence.
Thanks David

149639 2003-06-04 04:46:00 Ive never played Quake using both screens at once.

What will happen is this:
You have a Primary monitor and Subsequent monitors.
In Windows, only the Primary Monitor can be used to view video, or play games in Full-Screen. This is not so in Linux however.

There is no performance increase or decrease AFAIK, because the GF2 will be working at displaying whats on its screen and its screen only.
The same can be said for the second PCI card.

Ive run 5 monitors off a P75 using 5x PCI 2MB Cards, mainly S3 Trio's and Trio 64's. Each Graphics card is responsible for its monitor, and its monitor alone!

Your BIOS should give you an option to make PCI or AGP the Primary Graphics card, however you can also do this from within Windows under the Display Settings!

Hope this helps

Post back if you'd like me to explain a bit more

Cheers

149640 2003-06-04 05:59:00 thanks that helped a bit

If i was running a game that supports multiple monitors
(read somewhere that quake can)
or Flight sim 2002

these games require more than 8mb video
will i need to meet the requirements on both cards

will the 64mb card being the primary supply good graphics to both?

or

the 8mb video card(looking at say the controls of the aircraft)might slow down the whole game?

If you don't know, don't worry.
hair pulling stuff

149641 2003-06-04 06:29:00 I would say it would display a lower frame-rate on the 8Meg PCI card if you can get it to do full-screen across both monitors. If your CPU is up to the task of playing it without a worry, then I would assume you would simply get a lower frame-rate on the PCI Card :-) Chilling_Silently (228)
