150118 2003-06-05 20:58:00 Hello again all!

Some of you may have heard of the memory problem i've been having in msdos. Well to update, thanks to everyone who's helped so far, and i've done everything, i've used memmaker, changed the config etc etc, and nothing is working.

For those that don't know, i've got some msdos based mp3 software that when an mp3 is run it gives a stack overflow error, change the config.sys lada lada la. Anyways the system i've got is a Pentium 133, 32mb of ram, Cmedia 4ch soundcard.

Any help on fixing this would be greatly appreciated!!!

150119 2003-06-05 22:13:00 I remembered this from an old Gameboy Emulator readme file.. and dug it up.
It may be of some use to you:

Install EMM386 (your standard EMS memory manager) in your config.sys.
In general, add the following two lines at the head of C:\CONFIG.SYS
device=windows\himem.sys
device=windows\emm386.exe
Please refer to your DOS manual for details. The above lines are
windows user specific, I doubt that other people will have any
problems about EMS.
If you don't have a DOS manual, read the .TXT files in your \WINDOWS
directory or ask somebody who knows a bit more about computers.
If you already had EMM386 installed in config.sys, remove the word
'NOEMS' from config.sys.

Hope this works

Cheers

Chill.

150120 2003-06-06 00:12:00 What's the MSDOS based MP3 Player?

It could be a program specifically for use in a Win32 environment but under DOS. I've been thinking of creating an MP3 Player for DOS only because I'm use to Console in Linux and it doesn't have all the eyecandy.

If you can tell me what the MSDOS player is, I'll have a look at it.

150121 2003-06-06 00:22:00 Have you tried adding STACKS=??? in your config file?

I don't know what it should be set to, it's up to you.
Kame (312)
150122 2003-06-06 00:24:00 Oops maybe I should tell you what the max is instead then :P

STACKS=64,512

Also have a look at

FILES=
and
BUFFERS=

They could help.

OK so I read your old post and found the name of your MP3 Player, it is suppose to be run under a Win32 environment so there's the problem there.

150124 2003-06-06 08:02:00 thanks Kame,
i'm into C++ so i'll check the source, but i'm sure it should run in dos aye, gonna do a bit of hacking around i think ;) but it really would be easier if there was another way!

150126 2003-06-06 12:04:00 I just tried it on an old 486-100 with a SB16, and it worked fine. In a dosbox & pure dos.

Which version did you get? I tried both the stable & the pre-alpha dos4gw versions.

I suspect the problem will be with your sound card, because its driver isn't setup right. Have you tried it with anything else.

Since its a p133, I would just use windows (or linux if your brave). Both winamp 2.x and winplay3 will work fine. You can make them start automatically by changing the shell= line in system.ini to your mp3 player.

150127 2003-06-06 22:18:00 Hey thanks Mason,

I'll go find the most updated drivers for my soundcard, but last time i checked they only had windows ones.

I might go try use a sb 16 i have lying around some where and see if that works!!!
