2003-06-05 10:35:00 | Hi .. I've successfully install Mandrake 9.0 on one of my PC and I actually using it now typing this message. Everything is fine except I don know how to set it to share Internet with my other PC using XP. I've been inside Mandrake Control Center - System Configuration Tool and choose Network and Internet. Then I chose Connection Sharing and followed the online instructions which most of them are auto anyway. When it said it has been configured successfully. I tried my other XP PC but still can't go online. ipconfig shows some strange ip .. like when it can't find the DHCP server. This is the setting of the Mandrake PC Current configuration of 'eth0' Network : 192.168.1.0 IP address : 192.168.1.1 IP attribution : static Driver : tulip Any Mandrake/Linux expert can help me...? ] Many thanks

2003-06-05 11:02:00 | I think I would set up your XP PC to have a static address of 192.168.1.2 and set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1. I think that the XP PC is expecting DHCP to be going - you don't need it - just use the static address

2003-06-05 11:15:00 | Can you ping from the clients, an external source like PressF1.co.nz? The PF1 IP is 210.48.100.45 if you want to try pinging that also. Make sure you've set the Gateway's IP on the clients, as well as the DNS Server as the Gateway :-)

2003-06-11 07:24:00 | Use ipconfig in a Windows command window (Start / Run / cmd.exe if you can't find one!) and ifconfig in a Linux terminal screen (you need to enter su first to become root). Now check out the differences...! I suspect your XP box has it's firewall activated. Try shutting that down. You can sometimes get more diagnostic info from Linux by starting LinNeighborhood (it should be on your Mandrake disks or under the Networking / Remote Access menu), clicking on the Log button, then double-clicking on your machine name. A separate panel will open up with a list of what Linux is trying to do -- and where it failed!

2003-06-11 11:22:00 | Sorry, don't mean to jump into someone else's topic but I have a similar problem on my setup. I use a ADSL router and have several computers linked to it. I have XP and Mandrake on my pc. I can't seem to set up the ADSL sharing on Mandrake. The LAN is fine cos I can ping the other computers, when I try a website it says "unknown host". On XP it is fine. Any suggestions? One person told me to set up the DNS values but not too sure how to do it on Mandrake...
