149896 2003-06-05 05:26:00 Hi,
I have a command in a menu that takes me from page to page (within a 'frame' environment'), but there is one instance when it needs to go to a page on its own (I think it can be termed a 'parent' page).
__________________________________________________ ___
The command line that I have at the moment is: - dhtmlMenu.addItem(new NavBarMenuItem("Start", "../index.htm")); this gets 'index' within the frame which is not what I want

The suggested solution I had from Dynamic Drive (which is where the menu code came from), was along the lines of the following example:-
parent.framename.location='http://dynamicdrive.com'
Leave everything surrounding the URL as is within the script

Unfortunately I am not at all well versed in java (infact I havn't a clue!), and cannot get my head around it. All help desperately sought
Many Thanks .

Javascript and java are quite different :D

Try looking at DHTMLCentral for some good menu scripts (best I've seen) and examples on how to get them all to work properly. BTW when you're there try moving the little "windows" around on the page, or maximising or minimising them :) shows some interesting things you can do with DHTML.

149899 2003-06-05 22:20:00 The following is the actual active command
Start", "../index.htm
which takes the person onto the page called Index when clicked on

149902 2003-06-06 02:48:00 I've not worked much with frames as I dislike using them. When you have 2 frames, a banner page on top and main below, there's actually 3 pages used, one that stores the information for the frames and the other two pages that display what's in them. What you want to do is write the script to either remove the frames or open it in a new page without frames. There are possibly more ways to do this.

If you give me a link to what source you are using I'd be willing to look over it.

149904 2003-06-07 23:38:00 Kame,
Thanks for that offer, the whole thing is as yet on my computer as I am re-hashing following site which has grown like topsy and "is as it is" , because I was asked to do it but had NEVER done a web site. I have learnt a bit and now have a much much tidier version ready to go (except for this problem)

An example of the the page I wish to go from is at www.yacht.org.nz

The page I wish to go to is
www.yacht.org.nz

Your help is gratefully acknowleged.

149905 2003-06-07 23:56:00 At that DHTMLCentral or other similar sites there should be available a script called a "framebreaker" - put that into your index.htm file to make it break out of any frames it gets stuck in.
