150168 2003-06-06 07:42:00 Thanks for all this advice guys.
Billy T, at the moment all I have is a dos startup disc in it and it still does it, I have also tried an AGP and a PCI video card to no avail. The only things I haven't changed are the mobo & psu.

Thanks Again :)

150170 2003-06-07 04:30:00 Has anyone got any thoughts on my problem apart from those already expressed, I do think I have resigned myself to trying a new mobo though. mechtiger (3957)
150171 2003-06-07 05:37:00 As an act of pure desperation,

have you looked in bios for any anomalies?

Cheers

150172 2003-06-07 05:52:00 I have checked the bios, nothing out of the ordinary there. mechtiger (3957)
150173 2003-06-07 06:15:00 Another outfield thought. It has anti-burn shield, which I take it causes a shutdown if the CPU overheats? Maybe remove heatsink/fan assembly and clean , apply new heatsink compound and try? Pheonix (280)
150174 2003-06-08 04:14:00 Hi, Still muddling through this problem. I was just wondering if a failing CPU could create this problem??

Thanks

150175 2003-06-08 04:23:00 While the focus of this thread seems pre-occupied with the monitor or video card, to me its more the PC itself thats shutting down. Afterall you have tried a replacement monitor and video card.

So yes, it could be the CPU (or any of a hundred motherboard related items).

If the whole PC is shutting down, its a tad hard to faultfind beyond that point.
Do you get any HDD activity after it has ceased displaying?

150176 2003-06-08 05:11:00 Not sure about hdd activity after monitor powers off as nothing seems to work, I have pulled hdd out of this computer and run for a good 1hr in my other computer with no problems, I have also tried with only the hdd connected to the ide ports this was after changing hdd from ide1 to ide2 still the same problem. I guess i wont know the answer to this until I have another board or CPU to try.

Thanks

150177 2003-06-08 05:18:00 The monitor "powering off" is most likely a distraction from the main event.

If the PC is ceasing to operate, then the monitor will go into standby mode. Its a result and not a cause.

>Not sure about hdd activity after monitor powers off as nothing seems to work

So the HDD activity light never ever shows activity after the event?
Are any lights on?
Do the fans run?
