| 149946 | 2003-06-11 09:30:00 | Have you got a network card in there that you are not using? Maybe your HDD decided to detect it and is spending the lost seconds looking for its mate. Check in device manager and see it a network card is reported, and if so, disable it. If it is an on-board adapter you can disable it in Bios and that might be a bit more permanent. | 149947 | 2003-06-11 09:54:00 | HI, Im Picking that the compatibility issue with the IDE Driver that the hard drive for some reason is now using.. From what you hint to it sounds like you are using WINXP, There is a cool little toy provided by Microsoft that can fix this issue plus work on some other componets of the booting process to speed this up. Download from Microsoft BootVis (www.microsoft.com). This tool was mentioned in last months Pc World.. Ok How to use it. 1)This program downloads as a self installing Zip. So once downloaded double click. Entering in a path such as 'C:\Temp\Bootvis\' 2) Browse to this folder, and load Bootvis. 3) Along the menu at the top locate Trace, Select nextboot + driver delays 4)Choose 4 for number of repetions and select ok. 5) This will now reboot your Pc 4 times, (will take approx 10 min) 6) Once all the reboots have actioned, open bootvis again and choose Trace, Optimise my system. | 149948 | 2003-06-13 06:36:00 | hey, thanks for the ideas so far. I have taken my netowrk card fully out, used the BootVis tool. but it still is laginf and loading slow. I downloaded the newest windows update and its still laginf on boot up nd stuff. I installed a new modem around the same time, would this have any effect? (it is a external modem) is running one of the standard windows drivers. |

Click Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) Q811493 (or Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q811493), and then click Remove. Click Next, and then click Finish to restart your computer. And your done! |

I think you cant remove SP1, if you cant find Q811493, then you must not of install it, if you did, you better run windows update, because I think that MS fix that patch a few weeks back. |
