149820 2003-06-06 08:23:00 Hi all

Thanks for the help - the problem is not yet fixed though. I'm currently doing a back-up of my important data, then doing a fresh install. Wish me luck people...

149821 2003-06-06 11:38:00 did you try uninstalling the game and reinstalling it? valiantnz (1709)
149822 2003-06-06 16:34:00 Twice - both times no luck

149824 2003-06-07 14:50:00 Thanks for that link, whetu

Unfortunatly it did not work.

I don't know what the problem is...

Here's the deal. I've had a 10gig HD loaded with XP, DX8.1 and nVidia drivers 43.45, before I updated my computer. I have not formated this drive, just removed it to put in the new 40gig drive. I then forgot about the 10gig drive (still in my comp, but unplugged). So I have been using the 40gig for then until the test tonight. I hope this makes sence so far...

So tonight, I swapped the 10gigHD back in with still the old drivers (43.45) and dx8.1. Homeworld worked like a charm. So the problem lies between nVidia and DX?? I swap back to the 40gig, uninstall the newest nVidia drivers and went back to 43.45. STILL no luck with Homeworld. So I'm now thinking that Microsoft has buggered up the gamewith DX9.0a!!)

So I am going ahead with a new install of everything, but restricting DX to version 8.1, but using the updated drivers for nVidia. (nVidia is not the prob, because I updated the 10gig drive to latest nVidia drivers, Homeworld STILL worked like a charm. Microsoft has ballsed things up).

BUT thanks for that link, didn't work for Homeworld, but will keep the programme for any other probs I may have. Is there anyway of uninstalling DX8.1?

Hope the above comentary has been a good read. If any other of you out there has a solution, please let me know.

149825 2003-06-07 14:51:00 Pity there is no easy way to edit posts. What I meant to say was:

Is there anyway to uninstall Dx9.0a and re-install Dx8.1??

149826 2003-06-08 00:46:00 There's an uninstaller here (www.3dcenter.org).

Hope it helps.

149827 2003-06-08 10:10:00 Thanks for that

But now I really am stuck

I'm back to 43.45 and Dx8.1, and homeworld STILL plays like crap.

Well, I tried everything to no avail. One nice fresh re-install coming up.

149828 2003-06-08 10:30:00 Eh?? That's wierd... so you're saying even with the SAME conditions in your larger hard drive (DX 8.1 and 43.45) it gives you poor performance??
