149916 2003-06-05 05:11:00 I thought that the software was the same, but just cheaper for a student.

I wanted to buy Dreamweaver to make websites on, but the place i was going to but it from said that the academic and student edetion put a watermark on everything.

Whats the oint in having a student edition if its going to put the watermark on everything?

Does that mean i now have to pay full price ($1000) instead of $300 ?

149917 2003-06-05 05:19:00 I suppose the idea is that you buy the student version at a reduced price to learn to use it, and for non-commercial work (such as class work), where a "watermark" is acceptable.

Obviously, they think the software is worth the full price to people who are using it for "real" work, and they want to get the full price from people who can afford it. (That is, the customers will pay for it).

Borland often sell different versions of their development suites like Delphi to cater for the different "values". The full version allows you to distribute the results of your work. Lesser versions let you learn to use the system at a lower price.

149918 2003-06-05 05:43:00 Depends entirely on which particular program it is. With something like Dreamweaver I think there will be most likely be certain conditions in the licence agreement which prevent you from using it for commercial purposes.

Others are just that you need to be a student to purchase it.

That is so Not true!!! I am using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX Education Version, & it does not do that!!! They are not telling the truth.

Where are you planning to buy it from?????
Have you done some searching around???

Do you have a student ID card? I am guessing not???

They definitely don't put a watermark on anything (well the educational version I've used certainly don't) - besides, Dreamweaver is HTML - any watermark it tries to insert can be fairly easily removed via a text editor anyway. I've not come across any academic software that has been limited in any way - not even Microsoft software.

149922 2003-06-05 09:44:00 Far, maybe these people are just trying to make me bye the expensive one. I am planning to make money with that program by making websites, so i guess that is commercial. Does the student version have a license saying you cant do that? mejobloggs (264)
149923 2003-06-05 09:50:00 Now I've possibly heard It all!!! I so agree with Stu140103 & Mike. Who told you this garbage in the first place???

I also use DreamweaverMX and never seen any proof of this.

Yes it specifically has a license saying that you can't use it in a commercial environment (simply put you can't use it to make money).
