150504 2003-06-07 04:11:00 When I click on the WORD Icon, Windows 97 Splash Screen appears.
It then vanishes. Nothing on the screen. Word does not open but I
have Word showing in the Task Bar. Cannot open Word.
As I am new to the computer, I would very much appreciate some help.

150505 2003-06-07 04:22:00 Hello Lynne,

150506 2003-06-07 04:31:00 Without trying to start Word
Using Search (Start - Search) (or Find, depending on your Windows version)
Look for "normal.dot".
Delete any copies of the "normal.dot" files that are found, and Word will re-create the file correctly when it starts next time.
Corruption to the "normal.dot" template file will cause this type of behaviour.

To avoid changing something that possibly should not be changed, follow godfather's instructions rather than any mentioned in the article.

Cheers :)

150508 2003-06-08 03:23:00 Thank you for answering my request. My OS is W98SE. I have tried deleting normal.dot and Windows has replaced it BUT I am sorry to say the problem is still there.
Thanks for trying anyway.

150509 2003-06-08 03:32:00 When Word is in the taskbar, RIGHT click the Word application in the task bar and select MOVE

Then use right or left ARROW keys to see if you can move the (invisible because offscreen) Word window left or right to show on the screen.

Assuming here that Windows has been setup previously for 2 monitors, and Word is actually displaying on a screen either right or left of your actual screen.

So trying the bove may bring it into view.

150510 2003-06-08 03:46:00 Thank you very much for that information. I had no idea what
"normal.dot" was all about.

Thank you so much. It worked! I can now click onto the WORD Icon on the desktop and Word Window appears.
Thanks again.
