2003-06-06 17:16:00 | I was talking with someone employed by Xtra last evening. I had not met him before and it was in a social setting. He said that he had heard that Xtra (his firm) are going to increase the speed of Jetstream Starter. He says he has heard that they are just going to do it, without advance notice and with no increase in charges. He thinks that it will be at least double. I had just been talking about Jetstream Starter in general terms and had not asked that specific question. :) :) :)

2003-06-06 21:33:00 | My dad's friend once told him that he heard a rumour that they would be reducing the price, quite significantly. So which is true? My thoughts so far: 128k Starter price lowered xxxk starter price constant speed increase Hopefully they are true ;-) :D

2003-06-07 03:46:00 | This sounds really cool. I guess the other ISP's will have to follow suit as well otherwise they will be left in the dust :) I don't think I'll be changing to Xtra if they're the only ones to increase the speed. Their 5gig cap is way too low. I'm having trouble keeping it under 10gig so far and thats on 128k! Ramp it up to 256k and I'll just use up my GB so much quicker!

We (the whole family) only use about 1.5 max. a month! |

2003-06-07 04:53:00 | Correct me if I'm wrong This is just like Sky Television last year. They said in newspaper and other media that they would be releasing a new web interface with everything (incl. web browsing) last October I am aware that the SkyMail has been around, but how about web browsing, etc. Where are they gone to? That's why I'm not hoping too much, but still, hopefully it will come soon

2003-06-07 05:14:00 | Ah, well... I still won't be using it. Not just because I don't have much say in which ISP my family uses, but because I dislike Telecom and how they hold a monopoly on pretty much the whole telecommunications industry. I also dislike their tactics. Not to mention their crap performance compared to overseas countries. New Zealand's broadband market is third world, compared to that of the UK and USA. And don't Telecom try and tell me that's because of the NZ economy, and how "we have a fraction of the population of the USA and even smaller demand"... according to the mobile communications industry, you will soon be able to browse the internet on your mobile phone faster than the standard PC. Well, if you ask me, that may be true, but it's utter bullshit that people will actually want to do that. Who the hell would opt to browse, for instance, PressF1 on a miniature little phone (that apparently will soon have the screen taking up 80% of the phone - it could be 95%, if they used touch screen displays with virtual keys) when it is much easier on a PC. And who would read an e-newsletter on their phone? The only use the technology will have is for receiving short emails and making calls. I mean for [insert appropriate word here]'s sake, why on earth would you want to use your phone as a camcorder? It's ridiculous, not to mention that the size of the phone would have to increased so you can fit in at least one hour of broadcast-quality video, with stereo sound, and built in editing functions. Now come on, playing games on your mobile phone? Time wasting. Occaisonally grabbing, but stupid. Playing 3D games with the quality of a PC on your phone? Well, perhaps in 20 years when we have holographic displays that can be projected in front of your eyes, but not on a tiny little cellular screen. Nope, if you ask me, the telecommunications industry really needs to get its head removed from up it rear end, and take a look at the real world. Next thing you know, SMS messaging will turn into actual emails, and you'll be able to get auto-responding tools that respond based upon keywords. I just have to say this: what sane person would take a photo of themselves in a supermarket aisle with some sort of friend and send a picture off to their other friend, all on some random surge of mindless acts that waste 50c for each darned photo?

2003-06-07 05:37:00 | Just remember,it won't be Xtra that ups the speed limit. That's done be Telecom in the exchange. The ISP has no say in the speed,so if Xtra get it, so will everyone else. Peter
