150270 2003-06-06 05:57:00 Hi guys,

Wonder if anyone has any complaints about Jetstream services. I am having problems with my adsl dropping off. Telecom checked and sent someone out, tested with their Nokia modem and found no fault. (That cost me $80). My replacement Dynalink 210 was to be blamed - said the technician. A call to dynalink (must admit they have been more than helpful) rejected any responsibilites/problems with the modem. They are not complimentary of Jestream at all or their contractors. Said " I can show the modem working if I am there". However they will test my modem. Meanwhile I am left without broadband. Wonder if anyone had any similar problems with jetstream or dynalink modem and can provide solutions or comments. Thanks guys/gals..

150272 2003-06-06 06:24:00 I use Jetstream and an external Alcatel router, and have never had any issues.

I am not sure why Stu wants to know about the ISP, as Jetstream is run by Telecom irrespective of the ISP used to access the internet over it.
It shouldn't be anything to do with the ISP. That would be akin to blaming the maker of your car for the fact that there are potholes in the road.

I understand that internal PCI ADSL modems and external USB ADSL modems are less effective on a fringe signal area, where external ethernet connected units seem to perform more reliably.

150273 2003-06-06 06:48:00 Was your asdl dropping off or locking up? Because if it was simply dropping off then turn on auto connect and it should connect straight back on again.

If it was locking up and then having to need a shutdown and power up then be aware that I had this problem with my Dynalink 210. They sent me a new power supply which lower the rate but it still did it. They said to send it back and they would replace it with a new one and asked if I wanted to upgrade to the 220 for a small cost. I did and never had it lock up again.

My mate had his 210 dropping off all the time until he got his fixed by sending it back under the recall notice. He never had problems again.

I was only covering all the options; it could be a problem with the ISP not having enough ADSL IP numbers or the ISP having some problems with ADSL on the ISP end or it could be a number of things....

150275 2003-06-06 11:57:00 Thanks for all comments. I think my case is more of a locking up. However when I power up my computer again, the adsl still wouldn't work. But it would work for an hour or so first thing in the morning, fresh - that's it. Do you really think upgrading to a 220 will help? Dynalink did mention about the power supply but did not elaborate. My adsl is not subject to an earlier recall. Haven't been given the opportunity to upgrage yet? Would like to hear from more people about the same situation. ephesus (2509)
150276 2003-06-06 12:03:00 Really does suggest an overheating problem, even if only at component level, on the ADSL modem.

That it runs longer from a cold start and doesn't recover if rebooted is a bit of a hint. Keep it in the fridge?

150277 2003-06-06 14:52:00 Hi Danny

I have a Dynalink RTA210 and have had absolutely no problems with it. Keep it upright if you think it may be overheating. Dynalink support their products to the hilt in my experience so, if it is faulty I don't think you'll have any grief from them.

150278 2003-06-07 00:17:00 Thanks again. My current adsl is a brand new replacement of an earlier one which had a faulty LAN connection - Only had that for 6 months. Have tried standing it up but still wouldn't work properly. Sounds like over heating components - as godfather suggested. Just that Dynalink techncianl is adamant that there is absolutely no fault with their product. Looks like I have to wait for them to finish testing the unit. ephesus (2509)
150279 2003-06-07 02:49:00 Cables/connector, Lan card. Long shot, have you checked the cabbles and plugs. Have you got any way of testing their integrity. For eg, plugs shouldn't get warm enough to trigger a poor connection after time AFAIN but environment is not known, sun, heaters, position of box, etc.

As said, long shot.

Cheers Murray P
