My friend in Hong Kong is paying only approx ~ NZ$70 a month to have LAN speed 10Mbps on his VDSL broadband, uncap, static IP so you can run a FTP server if u wish. His monthly traffic is around 300GB both upload and download (he runs a ftp server). Most of my friends in Canada have T1 in their home if not better. I'm still stuck with a 56k modem .. :( Yes .. I know that most people would say they rather live in NZ to have a big house and garden rather than facing concrete walls as in most countries in asia, yes I agree to that. NZ is an excellent country but the fact is it's broadband technology is somewhat 3rd world as Agent as mentioned and over priced and slow. |

| 150433 | 2003-06-13 22:57:00 | Stevee - you say that the Jetstream 500 is worth the "$5 per month premium" over Jetstream Starter. My understanding however is that Jetstream 500 costs $49 per month and the Starter $29.95 per month, which is a roughly $19 per month difference. Did you perhaps mean the there is roughly a $5 difference in premium per week ? I know there are other factors such as what else makes up the package, but that would probably not be significant. I am interested because hopefully I am reading the situation wrong (and then I would upgrade !). :| ;) |

| 150434 | 2003-06-15 01:21:00 | Misty, let me clear things up a bit, for each of the package it is priced like this: Jetstream Starter 5000 (aka JetStart) 128k capped 5gb $29.95 to Telecom $30-35 to your ISP (Xtra charges 35) TOTAL: $~64.95 Jetstream Home 500 uncapped 500mb $49.95 to Telecom $~20 to ISP (Xtra charges 20) TOTAL: $~69.95 Jetstream Home 1000 uncapped 1gb $69.95 to Telecom $~20 to ISP (Xtra charges 20) TOTAL: $~89.95 So basically, I will sum up saying, you get charged more from Telecom BUT less from ISP. Telecom charges the data transfer, ISP is just like the sales agent. Happy, are you going to change? You are paying $5 more for more speed but only 1/10 data transfer (500mb vs. 5000mb *5gb*) Remember that 500mb doesn't go for very long... Good luck :D |
