The limit is set by the ADSL hardware which can theoretically run to 8MBit/s. Throughput is different - on full JetStream this is normally set simply by how fast data can find its way through the many routers involved in the complete connection through the Internet - typically this tops out at about 1MBit/s, but is often way, way lower. The highest I have ever seen was 3 MBit/s from a local site. On JS Starter an software limit is imposed on the connection, not the physical port. This means that if you log off JS Starter and reconnect on JS games, the limit is removed because it is a different connection. All traffic on the latter is local (to the AK games server) so usage charges are not required. |

2003-06-08 00:23:00 | How about this- I just recently noticed that my full-blown jetstream has slowed to 384kbits from about 680-odd. I am tempted to "downgrade" to Jetstart because it is cheaper and not much slower. Upstream is still 680-odd, which is slow, but I am way beyond the normal area. robo.

2003-06-08 01:21:00 | >The average Jetstream customer will only > ever get speeds of 2MB/s - and that's burst speed. You're obviously meaning Mb/s - I'm not on a fantastic line, but my MINIMUM is around 2Mb/s - average is about 4Mb/s, and sometimes up to 6

2003-06-08 11:09:00 | Hi Stevee,it is the port that has the limit on it.You can use whatever login you like(apart from JS games)and the speed on that port will always be 128K,even using someone elses full Jetstream login. Peter

2003-06-08 21:15:00 | I have also been talking to someone who works at Telecom and they said that Telecom will most likely increase the Jestream Starter speed to 512k. Probably around August because that's supposedly when they are going to release their new product 'Jetstream Wireless'. I think they have some deal with BCL to run this. | CYaBro (73) | |
