150664 2003-06-07 11:58:00 I would dearly love to get rid of banner flash ads in mozilla firebird 0.6, I dearly love the feature to remove excess advertising on websites, but the problem is that it is simply replaced fairly often with flash enabled ads, which are in my mind worse...

I have been tempted on occasion to simply rip flash out of my system, & be done with it, but every now & again I think of artistry such as Ninjai, & I restrain myself.

Which leaves me with the dilema of getting rid of the unwanted ads.

Advice anyone?

150665 2003-06-08 00:20:00 use something like a host file to block the ad sites. you won't be able to do anything about flash ads that come from the site you are veiwing, nothing will tell the diff between good flash and bad flash. tweak'e (174)
150666 2003-06-08 03:34:00 I have a seperate browser set up with flash which I use for flash sites (ie strongbad). While my main browser has everything anoying turned off.

If you don't want to do that you could try a boomarklet. Create a bookmark to the following links and click on them after the page has loaded. They following work in mozilla, so they should be ok in firebird.

I've put them up here (homepages.paradise.net.nz) because pf1 doesn'tlike them.

150667 2003-06-11 00:04:00 There is a new browser extension available for Mozilla Firebird for ad and flash blocking:
Download here (texturizer.net)

Homepage of author: here (adblock.mozdev.org).

Once downloaded, right click on the ad you wish to block and choose Adblock to add it to the filters.
