151334 2003-06-09 11:57:00 Refering to my previous post regarding can't communicate between mankdrake and xp . .

I change the NIC to a realtek chipset and in BIOS I manually assigned an IRQ to the Slot where the NIC is . I thought I didn't have to do that since I already set Plug & Play OS to No . . but nevermind . . .

Anyway . . I'm writting this msg on my XP machine while using ICS on a Linux PC . .

Thank you for those who replied . . most appreciated . .

Now . . . how to secure Linux? umm . . Does the built in Firewall in Mandrake suffice ?

Cheers

What was the origional NIC? I've had trouble with 3c905 based ones.

There is actually only a single firewall for linux which is part of the kernel (called iptables). All the other stuff is just an interface to it.

So the filewall is fine as long as its setup correctly. The only real problem with the mandrake on is the lack of options.
