151075 2003-06-08 23:56:00 I recently migrated from Windows 98se to 2000. For some inexplicable reason my new OS insists on accessing the floppy drives on each bootup. What's more, the problem seems to be spreading with an increasing number of random access attempts during each windows session. I have tried a number of 'curative' measures (installing the OS with the floppy drives disabled, booting with blank disks in each drive, swapping in a new drive cable etc.) but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me?

My hardware comprises an ASUS A7V333 motherboard, an AthlonXP 2100+ CPU, and 256 of DDR RAM.

My legacy floppies were removed from the boot sequence list long before the present problem arose.

151078 2003-06-10 01:35:00 Okay then, starting from first principles, your OS should not try to access your floppy drive unless it is enabled in bios so you need to recheck.

A reasonably conclusive test might be to insert a floppy and try to access the contents via explorer. If it give you a "drive not found" response you do indeed have an interesting problem.

As an interim measure, if you don't use it, unplug the power connector.

151079 2003-06-10 02:02:00 Possibly an update is available for this.

Sometimes there are programs that cache files in certain locations for quicker access, maybe Win2k has done this and has cached something off A: and is checking to see if it's there.

I would look for answers on prefetching, indexing and also check your startup files like the MSOffice one.
