151432 2003-06-10 01:26:00 My friend has a pentium 2, 300mhz, with windows 98. When he starts it up it gets part way into loading windows 98 then screen goes blank, including power light off and then computer shuts itself down. I can't remember the procedure for starting in safe mode or even if this may help. Can anyone suggest anything please Merv (3987)
151433 2003-06-10 01:29:00 Try safe mode first as it may indicate whether it is a software or a hardware problem.
To get into safe mode, hit F8 button continuously after the memory test, on bootup, until you get a menu onscreen. On there is listed safemode.

Not yet it hasn't Chris, but it sure covers some options worth trying and that is why I posted the link. If nothing there helps, at least you have some idea what it isn't.

151438 2003-06-10 04:22:00 if you have the Knoppix CD, boot from it and see if the PC stays up, if it does, then I suspect some where in 98 has problems.. might need reinstallation. SKT174 (1319)
