151674 2003-06-12 07:07:00 Hi Steve: By working ok, I meant they open up alright and appear to be doing what they should, only theres no data stream back and forth. I tried AdAware for the ability to get the latest update to see if messages were going back and forth. They werent. Make sense?

Hi patryn999: Thanks for that suggestion. I'll print that off and try it the weekend.

Hi J Zep: Thanks for the informative response. However, I dont think its got anything to do with the updates. She doesn't know how to do them. When you ask, you get a blank stare and a "Whats that?" It made me look at my own though and I have both those installed with no apparent problems.

Thanks guys.

Also seen she is running win ME she denfaniy need to run windows updates, because they are a few thing she need to patch up e . g . System Restore patch, IE 5 . 5 patches & a SP, help section/update/patch & more…

if she is unsure on what patch to install she can give me a e-mail at stuartw77 at hotmail dot com .

Also what version of IE is she running???

& Has she tried a different browser and depends on what version of IE she is running has she try a repair????

Hope this helps .

151676 2003-06-12 22:44:00 I have had this experience some time ago but it was related to an Xtra modem problem that seemed to affect a small number of users in this area. I don’t think this is your problem as it sounds more a local problem than an ISP but the symptoms are the same. If you are with Xtra try the dial up number 087 303032. Berryb (654)
151677 2003-06-25 10:47:00 Sorry guys,

Friends computer finally going ok. Tried all suggestions with no luck. Checked their webmail and spotted an email from their ISP.

Guess what?

The automatic debit due at the end of May was declined by the credit card company. Account deactivated until payment received. Aaarrrgggghhhh.

Contacted ISP, redebited, accepted this time, reactivated and all go.

Never overlook the obvious, or unobviuos, as the case may be.
Thanks again for your help.
