151630 2003-06-11 15:42:00 it takes a couple of months to reach your full potential... only takes a week or so to get used to the co-ordination of looking at your monitor while typing, which is what the covered-hands method achieves.

in my experience of course...

151631 2003-06-12 01:53:00 Does anyone else find that they can type better when they're not using a typing tutor or some other typing test. I always seem to make a lot more mistakes when using on of the programs compared to actual typing in a real world situation. -=JM=- (16)

I remember that.. Good proggy too!

Yeah, JM, I find the same.. A lot of the time you're having to read things off the screen, and also worry about what is appearing elsewhere on the monitor. Real-Life situations might be dictating, reading from paper, or whatever comes to mind (Such as writing a post for here) so I find I do type better without a tutor.

I typed for ages, but always looked at the keys.. but I got a pretty consistent 40wpm...
Then one day I realised I didnt actually need to look at the keys.. slowed down to 30wpm for a few weeks, but now its improving..

Give it around 10 weeks if you're doing 20 mins a day :-)

Practise and you'll only get better... Try a variety of apps IMHO too... some are stronger in places than others!

It's the dont-fall-off situation. If you're standing on the edge of a cliff and someone says "dont fall off!" suddenly thats all you think about, and you've got a higher liklihood of actually falling off.

151634 2003-06-12 04:08:00 funny i have less issues with typing tutors....
yes games are good they take accuracy and speed.
as said i am using a laptop, i have got myself a logitech access model keyb hope its easier to reach some keys... found bit crampy on the laptop.

one complaint my software they do not target your weakness, sometimes u are cruising and sometimes struggling depending upon which keys u are asked to type. also if u fast enof my software does not care how many times u press backspace!!

cheers.

151635 2003-06-12 04:16:00 would anyone have ideas about how I should step thru the stages?

now i am at all keys less 8, i did two test and received 97/98% accuracy at 47 and 50 wpm.

151636 2003-06-12 05:37:00 i am back on the laptop
man, talk about wrist strain.... laptop is better as it has a parallel rest.

i need a rest for the logitech. the builtin is bugger all......
i connected my logitech to the laptop and the keyb would not work?? i went into bios and failed to find a solution. it has one ps2 port. i connected keyb and no mouse. i got to win2k logon screen. could not even press enter!! there were lights on the keyb. the keyb worked in the desktop thou........

i tend to type better when the keyb legs are down. so its more flatter. makes my wrist strain even more if its elevated up.

cheers,
