151678 2003-06-10 15:17:00 PC WORLD should start a magazine called "LINUX WORLD" with everything about linux for the begginners and proffessionals. And have windows error jokes. And have a CD with LINUX stuff on it.

Just like PC WORLD only LINUX:x.

I'd buy it. Every week if so.

Even if it was just a 30 page instead 130 or so.

:-)

151679 2003-06-10 19:50:00 Hey
Linux-World is part of the IDG series of magazines (PCWorld, MacWorld, LinuxWorld)...
Although I too would definately get Linux World alongside PCWorld, wouldn't it be better to send an email to IDG enquiring about it?

151681 2003-06-10 21:17:00 It would not surprise me if it is on the cards for the future. Just give it some time for them to realise that they're half filling PC World with articles on Linux and other similar topics. -=JM=- (16)
151682 2003-06-10 22:47:00 "NZ Linux World" Sounds like a great idea, if it was less than $10 a month I would consider buying it each month. less than $5 I would make sure I get it every month. also include programing, no not visual basic, C, C++, php, and some of the others linux uses. E.ric (351)

Ditto that...

Especially after Geoff's column..

151685 2003-06-11 01:39:00 I think that if the market was there, sowould be the magazine . However . . . NZ PC World is aimed mostly at Microsoft users, because that's the majority . What percentage of Microsoft users buy the magazines aimed at them? I don't think there'll be a "NZ Linux World" until there's a much bigger population in NZ to support it . (Say about 100 million? --- I don't think there's one in Australia even) . I see that most of the UK and US magazines are thinner than they have been . . . that's an indication that advertising is down . Publishing runs on money, not enthusiasm .

There are a few Linux specialist mags published in the US: Linux Journal is one I see regularly, and a number of online magazines . LJ is both .

Im sure there's a lot less who subscribe to PCW.. Back when they had those 'Look, PCW now has 15,000 Subcribers' ads?!

Considering the population of New Zealand is around 4 Million, even if there's 15,000 readers or subscribers, that's about one in every 270 people who subscribe to it... which isnt too bad for a very specificly targeted audience!

I wonder if they've put any stats on their website... *Goes off to look*

151687 2003-06-11 01:55:00 There's a little magazine called Net Guide, that I've seen, its quite cheap too; about $3.50 or something, I think, and I see there's a similar format mag, specifically for "Macs".
So, maybe something along those lines for Linux, even perhaps a little more modest to start with. There's another one too, Computer world? sort of a newspaper format and very cheap, even that could fit the bill, just to generate interest to "kick it off"?
I would definitely be interested
