151543 2003-06-10 10:32:00 Yep, In the BIOS, turn off 'Wake on Ring'! Chilling_Silently (228)
151544 2003-06-10 10:35:00 You get into the BIOS when your PC boots up, usually by pressing Del :-) Chilling_Silently (228)

151546 2003-06-11 01:31:00 When your computer starts up, it'll display the type of bios you have - Award and Via are the most common. Let us know which you have, and we can direct you exactly where to make the change.

Here's the instructions for an Award bios on an Intel 440BX Gigabyte motherboard, which may be helpful:

Start the computer.
While it's booting press and hold the Delete key.
The first screen you'll see is the Standard Cmos Setup.
Use the arrow keys to scroll down to the Power Management Setup line and press Enter.
Scroll down to the ModemRing On/WakeupOnLan line.
Use the PageDown key to change it to read Disabled.
Press Esc, and exit and save settings.

The procedure should be somewhat similar whatever version of bios you have, so you could probably work through it - just don't make any other changes.

151547 2003-06-11 01:34:00 If the above doesn't work, disconnect the modem cable from the phone socket when PC is switched off! :D Greg S (201)
151548 2003-06-11 01:54:00 And if the modem is a card, rather than built on the motherboard, remove the cable from the card to the motherboard. Graham L (2)
151549 2003-06-11 02:14:00 For external modem on serial port turn off the setting that controls the serial/com port it's connected on where RTC setting is, there's settings in the bios that can turn on your computer if power is sent through those devices, also Wake on LAN if you are networked (although I don't understand Wake on LAN due to the fact you wouldn't have an IP assigned so it must get a broadcast signal that switches it on.
