2003-06-10 00:30:00 Is this something someone can do easily. The pc is a desktop model. Looking inside it it is not immediately obvious which screws to undo to physically remove the cdr. Any hints would be helpful gerrypics (323)
2003-06-10 01:11:00 What brand & model do you have? Perhaps someone is familiar with the model you have.

2003-06-10 01:25:00 Usually 2 on each side of the device. Unplug the leads from the rear. If new to this, mark the big lead so you know which way it goes around. Check the rear of the CDR and observ there is a movable link (usually black). Has 3 positions marked on case MA SL CS . Note which one it is and make sure the CDRW has the link indicating the same . For example, SL on CDR , make the link coincide with SL on CDRW.
Put in CDRW , connect leads and screw in.
Turn on PC and when it has finished loading, install the software.

2003-06-10 01:50:00 ATX P4 Desktop Case. Quite confident with the plugs wires & drivers but looking inside the case it appears the floppy mountings inhibit access to the 2 screws on one side of the cdr. It looks as if the floppy might have to be removed first. Is that likely gerrypics (323)
2003-06-10 01:58:00 Have a closer look at the cages holding the components. Some are removable to enable drives to be installed in them and then screwed back into the case. Hedwig® (3938)
2003-06-10 06:45:00 Yes. They do not consider service/install when designing to fit all in a case. :) Pheonix (280)
2003-06-10 10:11:00 Thanks guys, if you see a hammer & a pinchbar flying outer my corner you'l know whats happened. gerrypics (323)
2003-06-10 18:10:00 Just make sure you use at least a static wrist strap . You might be able to change the cd drives easily, but without a static wrist strap you might just cause a static charge in the drive . If this happens (and the whole motherboard would most likely be affected) then over a short time your computer will deteriorate (like an alzheimers patient) to the stage where you can't do anything with it . And no amount of tune-ups will fix it . This is just a required tune-up precaution, but not necessary . You may get away without the strap . . . . . . . but then again, I WOULD recommend one . raddersnz (684)
