2003-06-12 04:59:00 | I have rebuilt a computer. The O/s is 98se, it has a Dell Slot-1 Motherboard Intel 440BX AGP Chipset, 450 Cpu, 64mb ram,6gb harddrive, When you reboot the computer an error Alert! Previous Fan Failure appears for 10 seconds then carries on to reboot successfully,is this a problem and can it be removed. The system seems to be working ok

2003-06-12 05:01:00 | awoof, Sounds like notifications for alerts have been set in the bios. You will have to go into the bios at boot time and turn off tha function. I can't be more specific not knowing the Dell system you have. But it is a relatively painless operation to fix it up. Cheers, Babe.

2003-06-12 08:07:00 | I've used a similar vintage one, and IIRC you has to scroll down to see the options. I cant remember the key combo, but its listed at the bottom of the screen. When you rebuilt it did you replace any fans?

2003-06-12 08:08:00 | It could have something to do with your heatsink fan. if you can check your temps do so. If they are above 70 degrees i'd say theres something wrong with the fan. check it for hair/dust or anything that my be restricting the airflow.

2003-06-12 08:58:00 | So its a different fan to the origional, which is what I was meaning. Was the old one three wire, (ie speed sensing) and the new one only two wire? Have you tried plugging in the old fan to see if the message goes away?
