| 151991 | 2003-06-12 03:56:00 | I have Norton Personal Firewall installed and occasionally get a problem in that I am unable to access any site requiring a password including Banking etc. I have checked with my ISP (IHUG) and they assure me that all my settings regarding security are OK. The problem apparently is with the firewall since if I disable it, then I can access any site. The odd thing that I cannot understand is that this does not happen the time and rebooting my system fixes the problem for a while until it recurs again. I have tried getting suggestions from the Symantec site with absolutely no success. I would appreciate some help. |

If this problem does not occur all the time and then rebooting fixes it, it may be something from the bank site that is triggering an alert with the firewall so it automatically blocks that site for 30 minutes. Have you looked at the logs immediately after attempting to access the site. If there is something in the logs, you can configure the firewall to ignore that type of alert. Bit of a long shot though, as I can access banking sites or other similar site with no problems using the same firewall. Another option is that you have set your firewall settings too high - trying resetting it to medium (if not already on that). To do this just click on Personal Firewall and then configure. Another place to look is under the Privacy Control > Configure. Look under Custom level and see whether you are blocking all cookies. Failing all this, you could uninstall and then reinstall the Firewall to get all settings back to default. Jen |
